Land of the Dead
Coco's world of remembered ancestors brings Sora into Miguel and Héctor's story, exploring the concepts of life after death
The Land of the Dead is the afterlife depicted in Pixar's Coco, connected to the living town of Santa Cecilia by a bridge of marigold petals. Its inhabitants maintain homes, friendships, and music after death. On Día de Muertos, those whose photographs are displayed on an ofrenda can cross the bridge to visit their families.
In the film, when someone dies, they come to the Land of the Dead. They can remain here as long as someone remembers them in the land of the living. This plays into the ideas of death and life that will be apart of KHIV's story.
Revealed at D23 2026, this world brings Sora into contact with Miguel, Héctor, and their companions. Footage shows Sora with decorative skeletal face markings, fighting Heartless alongside the musicians, while Donald and Goofy appear on the marigold bridge.
The name of the world has not been revealed, but the film calls it the Land of the Dead.
