Underworld (Olympus Coliseum)
The realm of the dead beneath Olympus becomes a stop in Donald and Goofy's attempt to understand Sora's disappearance.
The Underworld is Hades' domain beneath Olympus, a place of caverns, lost souls, and dangerous bargains inspired by Disney's Hercules. Hades can summon and manipulate the dead, making the realm both a prison for those under his control and a weapon in his schemes against Hercules.
Kingdom Hearts II, Sora, Donald, and Goofy ventured below Olympus Coliseum, helped free Auron from Hades' control, and fought in the Underdrome. The realm weakened living visitors, a restriction they overcame with the Olympus Stone. Dark Road also showed Xehanort and Eraqus meeting the spirits of fallen students there, establishing that it can reveal information unavailable in the living worlds.
The Kingdom Hearts IV announcement teased Donald and Goofy exploring a dark cavern and encountering Hades. Later footage develops their Underworld search into playable sequences as they seek answers about Sora. His disappearance beyond reality gives them a reason to question the lord of the dead.
