Vanitas
Darkness Formed
Darkness born from Ventus' heart filled with negative emotion.
Vanitas is possibly formed from two entities.
- One of the 13 Darknesses
- The Darkness in Ventus Heart.
He is likely he is both the primordial Darkness and Ventus. He was formed when Xehanort attempted to forge the χ-blade by separating Ventus into a being of Darkness and a being of Light. Vanitas has stated that he is Darkness, but we do see a chunk of Ventus' heart removed in Birth by Sleep, so it is likely he is a combination of both.
When Vanitas was formed, he became the apprentice of Master Xehanort and unleashed a new threat in the worlds. This threat would be named the Unversed. Creatures that feed and or born from the negative emotions of him and others. Everytime an unversed is destroyed it feeds right back into Vanitas to form more unversed.
During Birth by Sleep he follows Ventus around taunting him. It is Xehanorts plan to have Ventus and Vanitas clash blades to form the χ-blade. This blade will allow him to open Kingdom Hearts and restart the world. Eventually at a climactic battle in the Keyblade Graveyard, Vanitas and Ventus merge and form an incomplete χ-blade. Both Aqua and Ventus fight him from outside and inside their hearts respectively. This ultimately causes Vanitas to fade into Light and Ventus was restored.
Its unclear if Vanitas died or just faded.
In KHIII Vanitas returns via time travel and gets a replica body. He fights as one of the New Organization XIII. He makes his way to Monstropolis where he attempts to harness the screams and negative emotions of children to grow in strength. His ultimate goal is to awaken Ventus and become whole again. He follows Aqua, Sora, Donald and Goofy to Castle Oblivion and watch its restoration. He is then able to sneak in and find Ventus' sleeping body. He attempts to kill Aqua and force Sora to use the power of awaking. Sora is able to awaken Ventus heart and restore him just in the nick of time. Ultimately he is thwarted by Sora, Ventus and Aqua at the Keyblade Graveyard where he admits that all he is is Darkness as he fades.
It is unclear if Vanitas will return, but the Darkness associated with him may very likely return.
