0.2 Birth by Sleep ~ A Fragmentary Passage

2.8

Aqua wanders the Realm of Darkness and helps Mickey close the Door to Darkness.

After the events of Birth by Sleep, Aqua wanders the Realm of Darkness looking for a way home. She finds the remains of worlds that have fallen to the Heartless, including the Castle of Dreams, Dwarf Woodlands and Enchanted Dominion. Time does not pass normally here, and she does not know how long she has been trapped.

Aqua sees images of Terra and Ventus and follows them through the fallen worlds. She Fights a phantom of herself as her doubts begin to take form. When she finally speaks with Terra, Xehanort interrupts and tries to learn where Ventus is hidden. Terra resists him, but Aqua is pulled deeper into darkness.

Eventually, Mickey finds Aqua while searching for a Keyblade from the Realm of Darkness. The events now overlap with the ending of Kingdom Hearts. They reach the fallen Destiny Islands, where Mickey finds the Kingdom Key D, the counterpart to Sora's Keyblade. As they approach the Door to Darkness, Aqua stops a swarm of Heartless from reaching Riku and is separated from Mickey. He reaches the door, but she remains trapped when the worlds are restored.

Back at Yen Sid's tower after Dream Drop Distance, Mickey tells Riku and Kairi what happened. Riku and Mickey prepare to rescue Aqua, while Kairi and Lea are sent to train under Merlin. Sora, Donald and Goofy set out for Olympus to help Sora regain the strength he lost during his exam.
