The Black Box
The Master of Master's mysterious box and central component of his master plan.
The Black Box is one of the most mysterious unanswered questions in Kingdom Hearts. Introduced in χ Back Cover. The Master of Masters gave Luxu his keyblade "No Name" and the black box, told him the contents and stressed that the box must not be opened until the appointed time.
The box is a large black chest with 13 locks, 3 on each side and 7 in the front. The numbers of 13 and 7 are often symbolic for the 13 Darknesses and the 7 Lights. The handles contain the Kingdom Hearts emblem. The top of the box contains a 13 pointed emblem with XSuper or χSuper on top.
The χSuper is likely in reference to the name of the Master of Masters. Each of the foretellers is named after the seven deadly sins using the latin roots for the base. The last remaining deadly sin unaccounted for is Superbia or Pride and is very likely to represent the Master of Masters.
At some point Luxu hid the black box and lost track of its location.
As of the beginning of KHIV we are unaware of what the box contains, but its contents are of great interest to multiple individuals. In KHII we see Maleficent and Pete searching the worlds for the Black Box having been told by Darkness that it contains the Book of Prophecies, her ultimate goal. We also see Luxord searching the Caribbean for the box. in ReMind we see an interaction between Luxord and Xigbar over who requested the box be found. It is revealed that the request came albeit through a roundabout way from Xigbar who is secretly Luxu.
In the Secret Episode of KHIII we see the box reunited with Luxu and 4 of the foretellers. It is unclear how he received the box but we do see Pete and Maleficent in the distance watching for a moment and leaving.
The contents of the box remain a mystery but there have been many fan theories and 2 specific theories proposed by the games themselves. these are:
- The box contains a copy of the book of prophecies or the original, proposed by Darkness to Maleficent.
- A heart. In the Caribbean, Vexen is curious about the box believing it contains the heart of Davy Jones and is fascinated by its mechanisms. This however is when they believed Davy Jones box was the Black Box and Vexen learns that the Heart Davy Jones spoke of is different.

- The image of the top of the box comes specifically from the KH Wikis, I have tried to find the original source but it appears to be a model rip. I have included it here as its the only clear shot we get of the top of the box.
