Union χ
Kingdom Hearts χ · Unchained χ · Union χ [Cross]
The Keyblade War destroys the old world, while the Dandelions face Darkness in a Data World.
Kingdom Hearts χ
The story begins in Daybreak Town during the Age of Fairytales. The Player joins one of the five Unions led by the Foretellers and receives a Chirithy to guide them. They travel to worlds created from the Book of Prophecies, defeat Heartless and gather Lux. Along the way, they befriend Ephemer and Skuld and begin questioning the Unions and the secrets kept inside the clock tower.
As the Foretellers turn against one another, their wielders prepare for the Keyblade War. Ava gathers the Dandelions to escape the coming destruction, but the Player remains behind and takes part in the battle. The Unions fight one another until the battlefield is covered in fallen wielders and their Keyblades. Ephemer and Skuld reach the Player afterward and bring them away from the ruined battlefield.
The game Unchained χ is a retelling of χ, but from the perspective of the dandelions in the data town reliving their lives up until the keyblade war.
Union χ
After the war, the Dandelions continue their lives in a recreation of Daybreak Town with their memories of the war removed. Five new leaders are meant to take over the Unions: Ephemer, Skuld, Brain, Lauriam and Strelitzia. However, Strelitzia is killed before she can join them, and Ventus takes her place without knowing that he was not chosen.
The leaders eventually discover that they and the Dandelions are living in a Data World. Lauriam searches for his missing younger sister, Strelitzia, with help from Elrena. The investigation reveals that a being called Darkness hid within Ventus, killed Strelitzia and manipulated him into taking her place. Ventus confronts Darkness and traps him.
Meanwhile, Maleficent arrives in the past after her defeat in Kingdom Hearts. She attempts to change what happened, but finds herself trapped in the Data World. Darkness is revealed and guides her toward a machine known as the lifeboat, which can send a heart into the future after stripping away its body. She uses it to return to her own time.
It is revealed that there are 13 original Darknesses that gave up their physical forms and can spread through people's hearts. The Master of Masters intends to trap them in strong hearts so they can be defeated. His plan uses himself and his six apprentices as vessels for the seven strongest, while the remaining Darknesses are meant for the new Union leaders and the Data World. The suspicion among the Foretellers was part of his attempt to draw Darkness into them.
As Daybreak Town begins to collapse, the leaders use the lifeboats to escape. Brain reaches the real world and sends Ventus, Lauriam and Elrena into the future before meeting Luxu. In the Data World, the Player pretends to be possessed and forces Ephemer to send them into a connecting passage with four Darknesses. The Player seals the passage, trapping them there, while Ephemer and Skuld escape.
The remaining Dandelions' hearts go to sleep, with their Chirithy becoming Dream Eaters to protect them. The Player chooses to let their heart move on to another life instead. Dark Road later reveals that this second life belongs to the person who raises Xehanort on Destiny Islands.
Before Brain escapes he is confronted by Luxu who is revealed to be the traitor. He explains the Master's plans. It is unclear how the rest of the converstation goes but we see Luxu take the form of Brain, implying he took his body while Brains heart travelled to the future.
In the end, Ephemer survives in the flooded ruins of Daybreak Town and goes on to found Scala ad Caelum. Ventus arrives in a later era, while Lauriam and Elrena eventually become Marluxia and Larxene. Brain awakens in Scala ad Caelum, where Sigurd is expecting him and shows him a statue of Ephemer. Skuld's destination is unresolved but we do see a woman similar to Her carrying a young Xehanort.
