Kingdom Hearts III

Re:Mind

the Guardians of Light face Xehanort and the new Organization XIII.

Sora, Donald and Goofy begin their journey in Olympus, where Sora hopes Hercules can help him recover the strength lost during his Mark of Mastery exam. Yen Sid has also tasked him with regaining the Power of Waking. Meanwhile, Riku and Mickey search the Realm of Darkness for Aqua, and Kairi and Lea train under Merlin. They need seven Guardians of Light to face Xehanort's new Organization XIII, they start with only 5.

The trio travels through various worlds as members of the Organization appear throughout their journey. They are investigating ways to create vessels and searching for the new Princesses of Heart. Xehanort intends to use these seven pure lights if the guardians refuse to fight. Meanwhile, Ienzo studies Ansem the Wise's research and discovers that Roxas, Ventus and and unknown third (Xion's) hearts are within Sora.

Riku and Mickey eventually find Aqua, who has fallen to darkness after Ansem attacks her and takes Ansem the Wise away. Sora reaches them and defeats her, allowing her to return to the Realm of Light. Aqua then leads the trio to Castle Oblivion and restores it to the Land of Departure. Before they can wake Ventus, Vanitas attacks. Sora uses his newfound power of waking to wake Ventus just in time to save Aqua.

With Aqua and Ventus restored, the seven guardians gather at the Keyblade Graveyard. However, Terranort attacks them, and a massive swarm of Heartless attack. Donald casts Zettaflare and collapses, Ventus is critcally harmed and the rest of the group falls.

On that land shall Darkness prevail and Light expire

Sora awakens in the Final World, a place reached by those on the edge of death. Kairi's connection keeps him from fading completely, and Chirithy helps him restore his body.

Sora follows a Heartless known as the Lich through the worlds to recover his friends' hearts. Using the Power of Waking, he restores them and overturns their defeat. Young Xehanort warns him that this use of the power will have consequences. They return to the graveyard, where the Lingering Will stops Terranort. With help from Ephemer and the Keyblades of the ancient wielders, Sora clears the Heartless swarm, and Yen Sid opens a path to the Organization.

The guardians split up to fight the Organization's members. Terra's heart is revealed to be trapped within Xehanort's Guardian, and he breaks free to recover his body and reunite with Aqua and Ventus. Xion, who was brought back as one of the Organization's vessels, regains her memories. Roxas also returns in a Replica body prepared with help from Ienzo and Vexen, allowing him to reunite with Xion and Lea.

After the other members are defeated, Xehanort shatters Kairi's heart to force Sora into the final clash. This completes the χ-blade and opens Kingdom Hearts. Sora, Donald and Goofy follow him to Scala ad Caelum, where he intends to use Kingdom Hearts to erase the worlds and begin again. They defeat him, and the other guardians arrive. Eraqus's heart revealed to be within Terra all along emerges and persuades Xehanort to surrender. He hands the χ-blade to Sora, who closes Kingdom Hearts with his friends.

With Xehanort defeated, Sora sets out to recover Kairi despite the warnings about using the Power of Waking again. Naminé is restored in a Replica body, and the reunited friends eventually gather on Destiny Islands. Kairi returns, but Sora fades away beside her.

The ending also reveals that Xigbar is Luxu, who has taken different bodies over the years to carry out his assignment. He retrieves No Name and summons Ira, Invi, Aced and Gula to the Keyblade Graveyard. Ava is absent, and the black box remains closed.

Re:Mind

Re:Mind follows Sora's search for Kairi after the final battle. Chirithy explains that restoring his fallen friends has already broken a taboo of nature and changed history. Continuing will make him disappear from his world. Sora returns to the battles at the Keyblade Graveyard by traveling through the guardians' hearts, eventually finding the scattered pieces of Kairi's heart in Scala ad Caelum. He restores her, and the two defeat Xehanort together before returning to their friends.

A year after Sora disappears, his friends are still searching for him. Riku visits the Fairy Godmother after having dreams of an unfamiliar city. In the Secret Episode, Sora meets Yozora in the Final World and is brought into a battle above that city's streets. Yozora claims that he was told to save Sora.
