Scala ad Caelum
The paper world · Mickey’s investigation
Founded by Ephemer on Daybreak Town's ruins, this historic center of Keyblade training holds the past Mickey has been sent to investigate.
Scala ad Caelum, whose name means stairway to heaven, is a city of windmills, towers and islands founded by Ephemer after Daybreak Town's destruction. Union χ ends with Brain arriving in a later version of the city, where Sigurd welcomes him and a statue honors Ephemer as its founder.
During the Blank Era, Scala ad Caelum was full of people and was a sprawling (European styled) city. At some point the city evolved and was largely abandoned. It is unclear why this occurred.
Generations later, Scala became the home of Master Odin's Keyblade students, including Xehanort and Eraqus. Dark Road recounts the tragedy that devastated those students and helped shape Xehanort's future. In Kingdom Hearts III, Sora's final confrontation with Master Xehanort took place in a manifestation of Scala reached through Xehanort; the submerged remains of Daybreak Town visually linked the two cities.
Melody of Memory sends Mickey to Scala ad Caelum to investigate the ancient Keyblade Masters' knowledge of the world beyond reality. Kingdom Hearts IV shows this investigation through a paper-like environment with playable Mickey and origami transformations.
