Melody of Memory
Kairi and Riku search for a way to reach Sora after his disappearance.
A year after Sora disappears, Kairi is asleep in Ansem the Wise's laboratory in Radiant Garden. Ansem, Even and Ienzo are studying her memories for a clue to where to find Sora. She recounts the events of the series before reaching a memory of her childhood, when Terranort sent her away from Radiant Garden.
Kairi remembers Terranort speaking about a world on the other side, beyond light and darkness. Within her memories, she confronts an image of Master Xehanort. When she awakens, she tells Ansem the Wise what she has learned. He believes the clue refers to a place beyond their reality, described as a fictional world or Unreality.
Riku arrives and explains that he has been dreaming of Sora in an unfamiliar city. The Fairy Godmother takes him and Kairi to the Final World to meet the Nameless Star, a girl whose heart came from that other reality. She recognizes the city from Riku's description and names it Quadratum.
Using the Nameless Star's connection to her world, Riku opens a passage with the Power of Waking and leaves to search for Sora. Kairi stays behind and chooses to continue her training under Aqua. Yen Sid sends Mickey to Scala ad Caelum to investigate what the ancient Keyblade Masters knew about the world on the other side.
